Lets Do This!

Velveteen Rabbit Project Inc. aims to address significant health disparities among minority communities in Arkansas. These disparities include higher rates of hypertension, strokes, and other critical health disorders that disproportionately affect minorities. These health issues are compounded by limited access to healthcare services, particularly for those re-entering society after incarceration.

About the Velveteen Rabbit Project

Because Love Is What Makes Us Real

The Velveteen Rabbit Project was created to support vulnerable populations through advocacy, resource navigation, and community partnerships. Today, our primary focus is helping older adults age 60 and above navigate life's increasingly complex systems.

Many seniors face challenges accessing healthcare, understanding benefits, managing finances, using technology, and maintaining stable housing. We provide practical support and one-on-one guidance so older adults can make informed decisions and continue living with dignity and independence.

If There is a Will there is a Way!

Our Long-Term Goal

The Velveteen Rabbit Transitional Living Home

Our vision is to establish a transitional living home for adults age 60 and older who are experiencing housing instability.

The program will:

  • House 4 residents at a time
  • Provide six months of supportive services
  • Serve up to 8 seniors annually
  • Include case management and resource navigation
  • Assist residents in securing permanent housing

Through mentorship, healthcare navigation, financial coaching, and life skills development, residents will receive the support needed to successfully transition into stable living situations.

Founders Statement

Why We Do What We Do

Growing up in Watts, California, I witnessed both hardship and resilience. I learned that when people come together to support one another, lives can change.

Over the years, through community outreach, resource navigation, and nonprofit work, I noticed a growing problem. Many older adults were falling through the cracks. They struggled to understand healthcare systems, manage their finances, use modern technology, and find stable housing.

I founded the Velveteen Rabbit Project because I believe every older adult deserves dignity, respect, and access to resources that promote independence. Our work focuses on creating opportunities, building confidence, and helping seniors successfully navigate life's challenges.

For years, I have worked to help people who are often overlooked. Through the Velveteen Rabbit Project, community outreach, and housing advocacy, I have seen firsthand how quickly seniors can fall through the cracks. Many elderly people are living alone, struggling with unsafe housing, rising costs, health problems, and now something many people do not talk about enough, the digital divide.

Today, if you cannot use a computer or smartphone, it can feel impossible to survive. Many seniors do not know how to apply for housing online, search for jobs, pay bills, fill out forms, or access resources that younger generations take for granted. Some are one emergency away from homelessness simply because the world changed too fast.

This mission is personal to me.

I know what housing instability feels like. I know what it means to move from place to place searching for safety and stability. Those experiences inspired me to fight harder for vulnerable people, especially seniors who deserve dignity, compassion, and support during this stage of life.

Our vision is to open our first senior transitional housing program no later than November 2027. This program will provide safe temporary housing, technology assistance, resource navigation, and emotional support for seniors facing hardship, displacement, or homelessness. We want to help restore hope and independence while creating a true sense of community.

Our initial goal is to help four to six seniors every six months. While the numbers may sound small, every life matters. Every senior deserves to feel seen, valued, and protected.

We are building more than housing. We are building a bridge for seniors who feel left behind in today’s fast-moving world.

With donor support, community partnerships, and people who truly care, we can create a safe place where seniors are not forgotten ,  a place where they can rebuild, reconnect, and move forward with dignity.

A Lifetime of Turning Challenges into

Opportunities

Growing up in Watts, California, I learned firsthand the value of resilience, community, and compassion. In a neighborhood that faced significant challenges, I also witnessed the strength that emerges when people come together to support one another. Those experiences shaped my belief that everyone deserves access to the resources and opportunities needed to build a better future.

As I continued my work in community outreach, advocacy, and resource navigation, I began to notice a growing concern among older adults. Many seniors were struggling to navigate complex healthcare systems, understand their financial options, keep pace with rapidly changing technology, and maintain stable housing. Too often, they were facing these challenges alone.

The Velveteen Rabbit Project was created to help change that.

We believe that aging should be accompanied by dignity, independence, and opportunity—not confusion, isolation, or uncertainty. Our mission is to empower adults age 60 and older through healthcare navigation, financial literacy education, digital skills training, mentorship, and supportive services that improve quality of life.

We are committed to helping older adults make informed decisions, remain connected to their communities, and access the resources they need to thrive. By providing practical guidance and compassionate support, we help seniors navigate life's transitions with confidence.
