Lets Do This!

Velveteen Rabbit Project Inc. aims to address significant health disparities among minority communities in Arkansas. These disparities include higher rates of hypertension, strokes, and other critical health disorders that disproportionately affect minorities. These health issues are compounded by limited access to healthcare services, particularly for those re-entering society after incarceration.

About the Velveteen Rabbit Project

Because Love Is What Makes Us Real

The Velveteen Rabbit Project, Inc. is dedicated to transforming the health landscape for minority communities in Arkansas. Our purpose is to bridge the gaps in healthcare accessibility, providing much-needed support and resources to those who are often overlooked. We serve individuals from racial and ethnic minority groups, especially those who have recently re-entered society from short-term incarceration, ensuring they receive the health screenings, education, and resources they need to thrive.

We recognize the complex challenges these communities face, including higher rates of hypertension, strokes, and other critical health disorders. By offering comprehensive health services and educational events, we aim to empower these individuals with the knowledge and tools to lead healthier lives. Our commitment to inclusivity ensures that our initiatives are accessible to all citizens within the state, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility.

If There is a Will there is a Way!

The Velveteen Rabbit Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential services to the homeless in Central Arkansas and Southern California. Our mission is to guide, direct, and assist individuals in various areas, including health clinics for physicals and vaccinations, housing navigation, employment counseling, and more.

We embody Humility, never judging who you are or where you come from. We stand for Integrity, upholding the highest standards of human rights. We are Family, always here to love and support you.

Partnership Is the Solution

The feedback from community leaders highlighted the barriers that minorities face in accessing healthcare and the lack of resources available to them.

Link to Related Issues: Health disparities are closely linked to other socioeconomic issues prevalent in minority communities.

  1. Economic Inequality: Limited access to healthcare is often a result of broader economic inequalities that affect minority communities, including lower income levels and higher unemployment rates.
  2. Educational Barriers: A lack of health education contributes to poor health outcomes. Many individuals are unaware of preventive measures or available health services.
  3. Social Reintegration: Individuals re-entering society from incarceration face significant challenges, including stigma, lack of support systems, and difficulties in accessing healthcare, which can lead to recidivism.
  4. Systemic Discrimination: Systemic issues within the healthcare system itself, such as implicit biases and discrimination, further exacerbate the health disparities faced by minorities.

Addressing these interconnected issues requires a holistic approach that includes health education, advocacy for policy changes, and collaboration with local community leaders and organizations. By focusing on these areas, the Arkansas Minority Health Empowerment Initiative aims to make a significant impact on the health and well-being of minority communities in Arkansas.
